One Mind Martial Arts Academy?

The martial art taught in the way of modern science is so much more than just another martial art. It is a complete martial arts system with a fundamental focus on self-discipline, respect and overall human development.

As a martial arts system, it covers the entire spectrum of the traditional Korean Martial arts and techniques for body conditioning, as well as mental and physical development and traditional weapons training.

This Martial Arts does encompass tournaments and competitions however they are not compulsory. Its main purpose is predominantly to the cultivation of mental growth, physical health, human development, mindfulness and Korean martial arts training.

It is a traditional martial art proven to be effective in modern times,  more importantly it is embedded with values and disciplines that are paramount if we are to live in communities that respect and trust one another. It offers a perspective and curriculum of martial arts that is not available anywhere else.

Meet our Lead Instructors

Instructors are fully disclosed and trained in Child Protection

JOHN EDMISTON 5th Degree Black Belt KJN (Master)

(School Owner)

Master John has spent the last 26 years of his life dedicated to practice in the Martial Arts.  Not only has the training been merely physical it has also been based upon daily meditation and self reflection to go beyond our own self egos.

His One Mind Vision is to help individuals become happy and more peaceful through the martial arts practice as well as to develop a like minded community that is open to everyone and anyone that would like to a be part of something special.

ABBIE EDMISTON 4th Degree Black Belt SBN

(School Owner)

Abbie started her martial arts Journey in 2001 and was completely hooked from the start.  It has given her so much more confidence so much more energy and have become much fitter along the way.  This is where she met her husband John.  They have 2 beautiful  kids and she is amazed throughout her pregnancies that she was able to continue training and after having their first child Mia who is now 10 years old and promoted to 1st degree black belt November 2021.  They also have their son Ollie who is now 18 months old and again she continued to train all the way up to 37 weeks pregnant, it was amazing how much energy it gave her and helped her to steer clear of the post baby blues that some mums can go through.

"At One Mind Academy you are surrounded by such great people from all walks of life.  We are a family run business and our daughter who is a 1st degree black belt helps to teach the younger kids.  She has gained so much confidence through doing this".

I love everything about the martial arts including weapons and techniques, the self defence part of it is great and gives me the peace of mind and a better awareness and faster reflexes.

MIKE PRATT 3rd

Degree Black Belt (PSBN)

Mike has been studying at One Mind since 2009 and eventually started after watching his daughter and son practice for a year.

He had not started before then as he thought he was too old and carried out too many injuries from years of playing other sports.

After he started he couldn't believe how addictive it was.  Always learning and a great way for him to keep fit as well.  He has watched his children grow up whilst making friends, being active and learning self-defence.

Mikes proudest moment would be when the three of them promoted to 2nd Degree Black together.

"I look forward to continuing my learning experience and to also pass this knowledge on to many more students and families along the way"

KATELYN MCGROTTY 2ND

DEGREE BLACK BELT (KSN)

Katelyn started in January 2010 at 10 years old as her parents wanted to get her into a martial art. During this time she spent months and months running around the house pretending to be a ‘ninja’. Even at a young age she remembers loving every moment of every class, and as she has grown older her love for the martial art has only grown stronger.

Katelyn loves training at One Mind because it not only challenges you physically but mentally too, however at the same time it is completely liberating. Through different chapters of her life training has always been constant, back at the start of her journey she loved the acrobatics, sparring and kicking whereas now 13 years on she loves everything it has to offer, however if she had to choose, her favourite would be weapons training.

One Mind Martial Arts Academy is my second home and second family everyone is so welcoming and having grew up learning this martial arts I can’t wait to continue to develop my skills and knowledge to better myself and pass on to others.

ONE MIND MARTIAL ARTS ACADEMY STRIVE ON HELPING STUDENTS REACH THEIR HIGHEST AND FULLEST POTENTIAL!

Testimonials

"I've been going for over 2 years now and absolutely love it. I normally go for about 3.5 hours a week (2 sessions). Since joining my fitness level has improved massively and I have learnt so much. 50 push ups and 50 sit ups seems like an absolute breeze. Don't let that put you off though. You are expected to perform to your ability. As long as you try hard, then you will have a brilliant time. It is the only thing that I do for fitness. The self defence techniques are probably one of the best bits and you are constantly learning new ones. But the use of traditional weapons like the staff and the dualbong (nunchuck) is really great fun as well. Would recommend it to anyone. The instructors are all really enthusiastic and encouraging and seem to very much enjoy what they are doing"
